ClipSpan

Clipboard history and sync for Android, Linux, and Windows. Testing is open: sign up and we'll email you a tester code.
The Android app is coming soon to Google Play.
Pair on your Wi-Fi with a QR code, no account needed. Sync is end-to-end encrypted.
ClipSpan in 34 seconds, with music. A link copied on an Android phone shows up on a Linux laptop and a Windows PC, an address from days ago comes back from the history picker, a phone pairs by QR code, and a laptop that drops off Wi-Fi catches up when it reconnects.
What ClipSpan does
Use your clipboard across your devices
Copy on a connected Android, Linux, or Windows device and paste on another phone or computer. Automatic sync moves supported clips as you copy, or use Send Clip for one item.
-
Move between devices
Copy on one phone or computer and paste on another.
-
Automatic or manual
Keep clips in sync, or send one when you choose.
-
Find something from earlier
Search your local history for text or an image you copied before.
Features
Features
ClipSpan keeps clipboard history on your devices. Sync supported clips automatically or send one item when you choose.
-
History
On-device clipboard history
Recent clips stay searchable on the device that captured them. Removed items can be restored from Recently removed.
-
Send
Send Clip between paired devices
Choose when an item should move instead of syncing every copy automatically. Share sheet and selected text use the same Send Clip action.
-
Pairing
Local network pairing
Pair over your Wi-Fi with a QR code, without an account, or type the pairing link if the phone has no camera. Wi-Fi sync is encrypted, and the phone checks the computer's key from the QR code. Local-only mode never contacts ClipSpan servers.
-
Offline
Catches up after time offline
Clips copied while a device was offline reach your other devices when it reconnects, in the order you copied them, without replacing what's on their clipboard.
-
Android
One Android app, including the keyboard
History, pairing, and ClipSpan Keyboard ship in a single install. Enable the keyboard in Android settings to paste into any app. Sync stays off in password fields.
-
Media
Images and other multimedia
Text and images sync between Android, Linux, and Windows. Files and links are in active testing. Automatic sync still respects your size and sensitive-content settings.
-
Account
Optional account, backup, and relay
Sign in to ClipSpan Cloud for encrypted history backup and relay of text and images when you're away from your Wi-Fi. Your password never leaves your device. Same-account devices on the same Wi-Fi can pair without a QR scan. Self-host with a custom Account API URL.
Platforms
Where ClipSpan runs
ClipSpan runs on Android, Linux, and Windows, all in testing now. iOS and Mac are tentatively planned.
-
Active
Android
One app with history, pairing, account tools, and ClipSpan Keyboard. First-run setup walks through enabling the keyboard and pairing.
-
Active
Linux
Desktop app with history, pairing, and sync controls. First-run setup checks clipboard tools; later updates can install from the app.
-
Active
Windows
Same desktop app as Linux, with first-run setup and in-app updates. Copies text and images, and the installer is code-signed.
-
Tentative
iOS
Tentatively planned. No timeline yet.
-
Tentative
Mac
Tentatively planned. Not in active development.
Privacy
How clipboard data is handled
ClipSpan defaults to local use and makes cloud sync optional. See the privacy policy.
-
Yes
Is clipboard data end-to-end encrypted?
Yes, on both paths. Wi-Fi sync runs device to device over TLS, and the phone checks the computer's key from the QR code. Through ClipSpan Cloud, clips and images are end-to-end encrypted, and the servers never receive clipboard plaintext.
-
Yes
Can it work without a cloud service?
Yes. QR pairing on the LAN works with no account. An account uses ClipSpan Cloud. Self-host with a custom Account API URL.
-
Yes
Is history stored on-device?
Yes. History lives on your devices. Cloud history backup, when used, is encrypted under keys your clients hold.
Defaults and choices
- Synchronization is optional. Send Clip moves an item without turning on automatic sync.
- Copies a password manager marks as sensitive stay out of History and never sync, unless you change that in Settings.
- Password fields on Android keep sync actions disabled, and ClipSpan Keyboard pauses sync in private browser tabs.
- ClipSpan Keyboard can see text in the focused field, like any Android keyboard. Keystrokes stay on the device unless you copy or send a clip.
- You choose whether to enable account sync at all. Encrypted history backup is optional, and your account password never leaves your device.
- Diagnostics and bug reports omit clipboard contents, tokens, and pairing secrets.
- An account uses ClipSpan Cloud (api.clipspan.com), which relays text and images when you're away from your Wi-Fi. You can self-host with a custom Account API URL instead.
- Local QR pairing stays the default if you never sign in. A phone paired by typing the short link, instead of scanning the QR code, trusts the first computer it reaches.
- Delete your account from the app, or on the delete account page.
